Torn paper using the Displace Filter

Before you start buying plug-ins, you have to remember that shadows, Bevels AND TEXTURES... will generate 90% of the effect. You may also use two layers to simulate the faded-out torn out paper.


1. Scan a piece of crumpled paper, anything with a texture (save it as a .PSD) or click on the image to download the file. This file will be refered as a "Displacement Map".
2. Draw you piece of "paper".
3. Use >Filter>Distort>Displace Play with % settings (bigger numbers will increase the effect).< Make sure "stretch to fit" is checked
4. A dialogue box will pop-up. Choose your "Displacement Map" (the PSD file)
Voilà!
