Here is a quick walkthrough for my winning entry on

1. Extract the element (you may skip this step for an architectural image.

2. Desturated and increase the contrast.

3. >Filter>Blur>Smart Blur: Select the Edge Only Mode.

4. Invert (CTRL+I).

5. Stroke the edges of your element.
